General Goals

  • To establish the New Zealand Genome Centre. This will include appropriate hardware and software resources, together with the development of expertise and knowledge in bioinformatics and comparative genomics.
  • To enable the Centre to complete a primary initiative, namely the sequencing and assembly of expressed regions of the kiwi genome and to assess other appropriate genomes for study.
  • To disseminate the above biotechnology expertise and knowledge into both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes in all New Zealand TEOs.
  • To engage New Zealand's broader science community, the New Zealand public and iwi in the activities of the Centre via the sequencing of the kiwi genome.
