To establish the New Zealand Genome Centre. This will include appropriate hardware and software resources,
together with the development of expertise and knowledge in bioinformatics and comparative genomics.
To enable the Centre to complete a primary initiative, namely the sequencing and assembly of expressed
regions of the kiwi genome and to assess other appropriate genomes for study.
To disseminate the above biotechnology expertise and knowledge into both undergraduate and postgraduate
teaching programmes in all New Zealand TEOs.
To engage New Zealand's broader science community, the New Zealand public and iwi in the activities of
the Centre via the sequencing of the kiwi genome.
